In collaboration and study with my fellow castmates for the upcoming production of ‘The Crucible’ @brukatheatre ,
there was discussion of the emphasis placed upon submission in the Bible. This flowing and uplifting conversation naturally led to the verse in chapter 5 of Ephesians that, I believe, far too many men focus on with authoritarian rigidity and a toxic level of domineering masculinity.

I believe too many men narrowly focus on verse 22… “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” and far too few men in today’s world pay any heed to verse 25… “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
.
It is atleast this man’s opinion that I should not be demanding love everywhere I go. I should be, and constantly become, of a manner that is worthy of respect, and trust that love will come as it will according to its own agenda and timing. The best relationships are held in the idea of two individuals submitting to each other in mutual love and mutual respect. That, I believe, should be the take away message if we expositionally approach the chapter and book as a whole.

I for one would die for my wife. I would give up everything I have, unto death, for my beloved and I am completely unashamed to say so. That is where true faith enters in through the door, that our ego leaves barely cracked open, and changes everything.

I am so grateful for her and my cast/crew mates who teach me daily.

We have summits that we achieve in life such as mountaintops, but the point is to acknowledge that the work is never done. We do not arrive at a summit in a relationship. We work beside each other in love and respect for all of our days.
