It is said
that they did not
see it coming,
that they couldn’t have.
Dead before the bodies
even collapsed,
to the ground
that would
shortly take them back.
No one else
to stand and clap,
train bearing down
runaway on a one way track.
I think of that,
while walking my dog,
letting him think
he can catch a rabbit
in the wild bush.
If he ever does catch one,
it’ll be because the rabbit didn’t
see it coming either.
