The industry is flooded with candidates who are ready for anything, or so they think. How can one prepare for being valued lower and lower with each passing day? How can another go years without ever being truly heard? These societal castaways build the framework of our existence and yet all too often “lead lives of quiet desperation” as Thoreau forewarned. Can we believe in each other enough to look past walls and wounds to the needed work that is rife with possibilities. Our hands yearn to give praise as well as catch the rain that was already falling. Can we look up in our desperation, loosen our clenched fists, and open our palms to the sky?

If marketing is convincing us that wants are needs, and politicians are claiming knowledge that is unverified, its no wonder the critical wounds still bleed, and the nation’s youth are terrified. If however, within the system, we can build with blocks made of integrity and children’s dreams, the starry nights will still pass without us having missed them, and we can join the builder’s teams. Such as lego brand on the carpeted floor as a child, and sliding in safe to the homeplate of distant memory, we can reclaim the intention we once held above all others for the sake of staking a claim in a brighter future for all. We can roll back our sleeves, and “stoop and build ’em with worn out tools” as Kipling says, while returning to the well which gave us hope in the first place: the source of our very first spark.

It seems fitting that ‘a time to every purpose’ would extend to the present day. As with a codified cauldron causing the crucible of caustic metals to become more pure, so is the present day drawing us with every breath into reconciliation with the well wishers from the dawn of time. The yearning we feel for more than what we see, the whispered words written on the flesh of our hearts, will echo into eternity with their actualization.
