When we decide to realize that life as we know it will end, every single action, gesture, and word becomes a working meditation upon life itself. What sort of person do I aim to be? What would I wish for my legacy to contain? What holds purpose, meaning, value, and a nature that is sacred? What is worth dying for? That is the common thread all sentient creatures share. What will we do with this knowledge?

In our attempts to catch and control, in our attempts to subdue and erase, in our attempts to compartmentalize and then destroy, let us not forget that we are the net. We are the frame that breaks for its brittle nature. We are the webbing and the handle. We are the water running through the bottom of the net, and the catchers in the rye. We are in each other’s place for a brief moment in time. We are in eachother’s space very rarely. Let us release each other from the bonds of expectation. Let us dive into the river of acceptance.

They have all served to strengthen my bones. They have all served to grow my heart. They have all served to imbue the world around us with spirit and worthwhile memory. They have all served. When we welcome the abyss so that it dwells with us and becomes our friend, it sees that it has no power over us. It sees that we are capable of being a worthy companion. The abyss sees what it is missing. It no longer attempts to pull the strings of those who are not possessed by fear.

These rocks in our lives. Unmovable in their convictions. Spreading color, decoration, and fortitude into our lives. Spreading love and longevity into everyone’s lives that they come across. May they be happy each and every day of their existence.

We place rings around sheets of ice to keep people in the game, and there are rings around planets elsewhere. We see rings in which pugilists exchange work notes, and hear the ringing of the bells when it ends. Such is the way of life when a pledge of lifelong love is made between best friends.
