The torches of youth, with its passions, with their agendas, and with those consequences, all wish to be eternally fed, and eternally quenched. However, as we age, we see the torches themselves are floating in water, just close enough to the surface that it doesn’t freeze. Just far enough away that it doesn’t boil.

Fleeing from destiny right into its hands, we hear a loud crack before the fade to black, memories flash in the mad dash to represent one last time what tender sustenance we become for those we deemed lesser before.

People can be wonderful and draining at the same time. Release can be excruciating and exquisite on the same climb. One can be happily withdrawn and communally melancholic in the same rhyme.
