COLLECTIVE BREATH – Episode: 37

Week of Sunday, March 21st, 2021

Number of people attending Facebook (personal portion):

Number of people attending Zoom Meet (group portion):

Introduction:

“It’s spring again. I can hear the birds sing again. See the flowers start to bud. See young people fall in love.”

— Lou Rawls

A transcript of this segment and each subsequent session will be posted (for anyone interested) at http://www.sidewayseight.co which is my main outlet for personal poetry and photography: Sideways Eight Projects.

“Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.”

— Gustav Mahler

Hello fantastic people! My name is Jesse James Ziegler. I am the current Poet in Residence for the Bruka Theatre of the Sierra in Reno, Nevada. I am an active poet, special event MC, principle photographer, special event series host, and now weekly wellness writing workshop host in collaboration with Spoken Views Collective of which I am also a Board Member.

“Tess knows that the only thing that can fix the listless vines, the crackling dry path, the broiling alleyway and her sagging mama, is a good, soaking rainstorm. “Come on, rain!” she whispers into the endless summer heat. When it finally comes, there is shouting and dancing as everyone and everything spring to life.”

— Description of the 2003 Children’s Book ‘Come on, rain!’ including the voice of Leila Ali

from the GooglePlay Store

This Weeks Writing Prompt:

This week’s Prompt : Write in response to the singular word ‘Spring’

When I say the word ‘spring’ you may picture a metal coil in a mattress frame, a green meadow glowing with a sunrise, a calendar open to March or April or May, a Slinky, blooming flowers, rainfall, a clock being adjusted, or the Easter Bunny. Join us in the group portion, via Zoom, immediately following in order to share and discuss your thoughts on the matter.

I want for this podcast style personal portion to contain information about famous writers and their quotes as well as, futuristically speaking, local guests to this program who help everyone involved gain a diversity of perspective and positively impact our individual process.

Quote(s) of the Week:(5)

“Flowers don’t worry about how they’re going to bloom. They just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautiful.”

— Jim Carrey

“A little flower that blooms in May. A lovely sunset at the end of a day. Someone helping a stranger along the way. That’s heaven to me.”

— Sam Cooke

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”

— Pablo Neruda

“If people did not love one another, I really don’t see what use there would be in having any spring.”

— Victor Hugo

“The deep roots never doubt spring will come.”

— Marty Rubin

I’m hoping this sharing and vulnerability I’m demonstrating will encourage others who love creative writing as well to open up, by sharing from their innermost, related to the topic provided. I’m hoping we all gain perspective, compassion, hope, and discipline through such organized sharing.

Collective Breath – Episode 36 – 3/14/21 – Transcript

COLLECTIVE BREATH – Episode: 36

Week of Sunday, March 14th, 2021

Number of people attending Facebook (personal portion):

Number of people attending Zoom Meet (group portion):

Introduction:

Happy Pi Day! Today is Sunday, March 14th, 2021. We are at 3-14 on the calendar which plays eve to the Ides of March.

“There is a tide in the affairs of men”

— William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

A transcript of this segment and each subsequent session will be posted (for anyone interested) at http://www.sidewayseight.co which is my main outlet for personal poetry and photography: Sideways Eight Projects.

Inevitably searching for information regarding the Ides of March will lead the reader to discover pieces written about loyalty and betrayal.

“You swore you loved me, and laughed and warned me that you would not love me forever.

I did not hear you. You were speaking in a language I did not understand. Never, never, I can conceive of a love which is able to foresee its own termination. Love is its own eternity. Love is in every moment of its being: all time. It is the only glimpse we are permitted of what eternity is. So I did not hear you. The words were nonsense.”

— Thornton Wilder, The Ides of March

Hello fantastic people! My name is Jesse James Ziegler. I am the current Poet in Residence for the Bruka Theatre of the Sierra in Reno, Nevada. I am an active poet, special event MC, principle photographer, special event series host, and now weekly wellness writing workshop host in collaboration with Spoken Views Collective of which I am also a Board Member.

This Weeks Writing Prompt:

This week’s Prompt : Write in response to the phrase ‘Beware the Ides of March’

I want for this podcast style personal portion to contain information about famous writers and their quotes as well as, futuristically speaking, local guests to this program who help everyone involved gain a diversity of perspective and positively impact our individual process.

Quote(s) of the Week:(5)

“If you will not die for us, you cannot ask us to die for you.”

— Jacqueline Carey, “Kushiel’s Dart”

“You broke the only rule in politics. You want to be president? You can start a war, you can lie, you can cheat, you can bankrupt the country… but you cant (BOP) the interns. They’ll get you for that.”

— Stephen Meyers (Character in the 2011 film – The Ides of March)

“We have to recognize that there cannot be relationships unless there is commitment, unless there is loyalty, unless there is love, patience, persistence.”

— Cornel West, “Breaking Bread”

“‘[Dumbledore] will only be gone from the school when none here are loyal to him,’ said Harry, smiling in spite of himself.”

J.K. Rowling, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

“Total loyalty is possible only when fidelity is emptied of all concrete content, from which changes of mind might naturally arise.”

— Hannah Arendt, “The Origins of Totalitarianism”

I’m hoping this sharing and vulnerability I’m demonstrating will encourage others who love creative writing as well to open up, by sharing from their innermost, related to the topic provided. I’m hoping we all gain perspective, compassion, hope, and discipline through such organized sharing.
