‘Closer to the Fire’ is one of three* poems in a series I’m doing focusing on the writing prompt “end times”. I’m reading and hearing that phrase being thrown around much more frequently these days. Several times by friends who do not believe in God or any sort of an afterlife. When asked about using that particular terminology regarding past, current affairs, and near future, the response has been that those words are the only verbiage which can be used to describe what’s going on right now around us.
