Genesis 1:1-5 ESV

The Creation of the World

1 In the (A)beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was (B)without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 And God said, (C)“Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Superhero

(Opening Poem)

We can be superheroes and villains in each other’s lives

as millstones slung around necks

or as protective angels helping joy thrive

Word and deed. Deed and word.

We have all heard our bodies bleed,

so why do we need it to be confirmed?

The Word was original deed

and every deed needed the Word

so before the Word can be heeded

it’s deeds must first be understood

The power of words spoken

earnestly said or learnedly joking

compassionately read or sarcastically broken

Something can hit you like a ton of bricks

or like a revelation which lightens your load

for words shape us more than stones or sticks

collapsing on ourselves as if we might explode

Poets are the bridges between despair and hope, the ones who help tie the not, at the end of your rope, who paint paisley brazenly on the slippery slope

There are many names ascribed to God

my personal favorites are master artist

and author of life

For only God knows my unfolding story

as the superhero beyond all strife

The Word Became Flesh
