SIDEWAYS EIGHT PROJECTS

We tackled the Wild West like it was manifest blessed, but tore holes in innocent chests, in our party rooms and our jests. We covered the plains with spilling, we rampaged the mountains for gold. We continued conquering, pillaging, and killing, and felt entitled to make others do as we told. There is no reset in this arcade. We cannot earn bonus lives, or super strength. We can see The difference we made, in who survives, and what is each life length. We can open the door to play in the past, a sesquicentennial ago or more, and be aghast at the perennial hello at the door. Excited. Divided. Reminded. Blinded to cycles that haven’t ended but entwined with our everyday lives and mind fits. Or we can progress, be humble and profess our need to clean up this mess and attest to the fact that we weren’t ever at our greatest or best.

Open mic in the rotunda,

hoping the sky might bring wonder to the ground, so that I can watch it fall, all while hearing them slay. Comics, musicians, poets, spoken word artists have come Brushfire’s way. The ground is powdered white, we are proud to pound the mic out louder, inside-out tonight. New zines to peruse, dropping flakes, one take makes, and you choose between teas, spitting the truth as we knew it while providing release.

You rolled up in the area rug to hide from your feelings, making yourself the burrito you wish could be consumed, while giving in to daily dealings, and being damned with the doomed. But your story does not end there. There is a light at the end of the rug. And though there isn’t anything about which you care, it is God giving your darkened heart a rug. You may want to scoff at these findings, you may pass them off as coincidental, but we all need remindings that the physical was first the mental. So we analyzed the patterns before us, looking at the thread of each stitch, all the while ignoring the chorus, and the baggage that we should all ditch. Breathe and be easy. Love and be light. Not merely as a means to appease me, but because your spirit already knows that it’s right.

Dave’s last day at KOLO,

Matches your appointment day at the dentist,

These kids today say YOLO,

but my love for you is relentless.

I wanted to pave the way like Han SOLO,

and send you a Heaven sent wish,

to throw together sweet words like ROLOs,

and wrap them for you with a kiss.

May you have power,

May you have strength.

May the world devour,

your need to talk at great length.

May your healing be swift,

and your recovery be sure.

May your spirit have lift,

and your worry have cure.

May your mouth be beautiful,

and your mind be clear.

May your heart be dutiful,

experiencing absence of fear.
