In late meditation, I find myself hearkening back to the ‘Writers for Migrant Justice’ event I was fortunate enough to perform and read for. I find myself marinating on the words of the poem ‘The New Colossus’ by #emmalazarus
which can be found on our #statueofliberty
.
The news speaks of impeachment, potential war with Iran, cyber security threats, Australia on fire, John Bolton making a public statement, and on and on and on…
.
I reread the words to the poem as it is a flickering flame of hope on an extremely windy day.

Even in a fictitious world,
one in which good always wins,
where nevertheless war exists,
imagine a delicate village
shell shocked from bombs
deafened by the sky’s fruits;
imagine a civilian standing
as she knows she’s going
to have her flame put out;
this woman in this village,
when her body collapses
to the ground,
there will always be
the author of life to see
and hear the overwhelming
sound.
